State Of Emergency Issued In St. James

A limited state of emergency in St James has been imposed by the Jamaica Government.

Soldiers are visible stopping and searching motor vehicles at various points in the parish where 335 murders were recorded last year.

Earlier this week, a man was brutally killed and others injured in an incident on the roadway near the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, the parish capital and the national tourism centre.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness signalled that the Government intended to take firm and resolute measures to tackle the country’s crime problem.
